Real-time Bus Tracking Comes to iOS

How many times have you stood at a bus stop with no real-time arrival information, watching the minutes tick by with no idea when the next bus would come? I built BusTable to solve that problem—especially for people in rural areas and small towns where real-time transit data often doesn’t exist.

The app was originally released on Android earlier this year, and today I’m excited to bring it to iOS users.

Why I Built This

Korea’s public transportation system is excellent in major cities, but outside Seoul and other metro areas, real-time bus arrival information is sparse or nonexistent. My grandmother lives in a smaller city, and she’d miss buses regularly because she couldn’t reliably check schedules. I realized the real solution wasn’t waiting for government data coverage to expand—it was building a tool where the community itself could fill in the gaps.

BusTable lets anyone photograph and share the paper timetables posted at bus stops. Over time, these crowdsourced schedules build a complete picture of bus routes everywhere in the country, from intercity express buses to village minibuses.

What It Does

• Map-based stop discovery. Pan around the map and see every bus stop in your area—whether you’re at home, visiting family, or traveling to an unfamiliar region. Tap any stop to see which routes serve it.
• Real-time arrival data. When available, the app shows you exactly how many minutes until the next bus arrives and how many stops away it currently is. You can also browse route details and service schedules for each line.
• Community timetable photos. Where real-time data isn’t available, users photograph the physical timetables posted at stops and upload them. This feature is especially valuable in rural areas and for infrequent routes that only run a few times a day.
• Trust scoring through feedback. Every uploaded timetable photo gets rated by other users. Outdated or incorrect schedules naturally sink, while accurate ones rise to the top. Comments let people flag recent changes or weekend exceptions.
• Contribution system. Upload photos, rate others’ contributions, or leave tips about schedule changes—each action earns you points and raises your community level. It’s rewarding to know your shared information helps someone catch their bus.
• No login required to browse. You can explore the map and check arrival times without creating an account. You only need to log in if you want to upload photos or participate in the community.
