If you’re studying law in South Korea, preparing for the bar exam, or need to quickly look up criminal code provisions, you know how painful it is to hunt through dense legal documents on your phone. I built Korean Criminal Code Viewer to fix that.
The app gives you the entire Korean Criminal Code in a fast, clean interface. Search by article number or keyword, jump between cross-referenced provisions, bookmark what matters, and even listen to provisions read aloud. Everything works offline, no login required, and your bookmarks stay on your device.
Why I Built This
I noticed law students, civil service exam takers, and legal professionals spending way too much time digging through government legal databases on mobile. The interface wasn’t designed for quick reference, and there was no way to organize or annotate provisions for later study. I wanted to create something that got out of the way and let you find what you needed in seconds.
What It Does
- Smart search — Find articles by number (“250” or “Article 347-2”), keyword (“murder,” “theft,” “fraud,” “self-defense”), or section heading (“General Provisions,” “Property Crimes”). Results highlight matches so you see exactly where your term appears.
- Continuous scroll reading — Read the entire Criminal Code as one flowing document, with section headers showing you where you are in the structure. Jump to any part instantly.
- Reference jumping — Tap any article number mentioned in the text to jump to that provision, so you can follow cross-references without leaving the app.
- Bookmarking system — Save provisions you reference often. View full text inline from your bookmark list, and play multiple bookmarks back-to-back with text-to-speech.
- Text-to-speech — Listen to provisions read aloud when your eyes are tired or you’re on the move. Especially useful for commuting or reviewing during breaks.
- Reading customization — Dark mode for night study, adjustable text size, and one-tap sharing to messaging apps or notes.
