Brain Training Note: Daily Cognitive Drills for Android

You walk into a room and forget why. A name slips your mind mid-conversation. Your focus fractures after hours of meetings and messages. These aren’t signs of decline — they’re signals that your working memory and attention need regular exercise, just like any other skill.

I built Brain Training Note to give myself a quick, science-grounded way to strengthen those cognitive muscles. Three research-backed tasks, a few minutes a day, and a simple log that actually shows whether the practice is paying off.

What It Does

  • Working Memory (N-back): Tiles light up on a 3×3 grid. Tap MATCH when the current tile matches the one from N steps back. Start at two steps back and progress as your accuracy holds. This is the exact task cognitive psychologists use to measure working-memory capacity.
  • Speed Processing: A shape flashes briefly, then vanishes. Pick the matching shape and color from four options. Get it right and the next flash is faster; miss and it slows down. You start at 1000 milliseconds and work toward 200 as you improve — your judgment speed actually gets pushed, not just measured.
  • Pattern Matching: One cell is missing from a 3×3 grid. Figure out the rule — shape, color, rotation, size — and select the piece that fits. Higher levels combine multiple rules and shrink the timer.
  • Interleaved Sessions: A session mode cycles through all three tasks instead of repeating one. Switching forces you to rebuild your approach each round, which is more effective than grinding the same drill. After each round you note which strategy you used and whether it carried to the next task.
  • Data You Actually Care About: Daily cognitive score, 14-day activity grid with your current streak, accuracy trends by week or all-time, an 8-week heatmap of your training habit, and a four-axis profile showing working memory, speed, reasoning, and transfer awareness.

Every task adapts its difficulty to your accuracy, so you stay in the zone — hard enough to hold focus, not so hard you quit.

Who This Is For

If you’re someone who forgets names or walks into a room without remembering why, this is for you. If you’re a student cramming focus for exams, an office worker juggling multiple threads across meetings, or someone whose attention has scattered after long phone use, you’ll find something useful here. It also works well as a shared activity with a parent — a gentle way to keep their mind active without feeling like medicine.

Privacy and Simplicity

No signup, no login, no server syncing. Your training records stay on your device. When you switch phones or want a backup, you export a file from Settings and import it on the new device. You can erase everything in one step anytime. The app supports Korean and English, with light and dark themes. A single round takes one to two minutes — three minutes most mornings is enough.

Brain Training Note is available now on Google Play. If you’re curious whether a few minutes of deliberate practice can sharpen your focus and memory, install it and run through a session.

Note: This app is not a medical device and must not be used for diagnosis or treatment. Results are reference material for learning and self-management, not a clinical assessment. If you are concerned about your memory or attention, please consult a healthcare professional.
