Every beginner guitarist hits the same wall: the tuner needle won’t stop moving. You pluck a string, watch the gauge bounce between sharp and flat, and have no idea when to stop turning the peg. So you give up, assume your ear isn’t good enough, and quit.
I built Easy Guitar Tuner to solve that problem. Instead of a needle, it listens for a couple of seconds, averages out the stable part of the sound, and gives you one clear answer: “Tighten a lot”, “Tighten a little”, “In tune!”, “Loosen a little”, or “Loosen a lot”. No guessing. No frustration.
I started working on this because I was teaching a friend to play acoustic guitar, and she kept saying the tuner was “broken” — the needle was moving too fast for her to read it. Then I realized: most tuner apps aren’t designed for the moment when you first pick up a guitar. They assume you already know what “in tune” feels like on the needle. For someone learning, that’s like giving someone a ruler and asking them to measure something without showing them the markings.
The insight was simple: treat tuning like measurement, not like reading a moving gauge. Listen to the stable part of each pluck, ignore the messy attack, and return a single, actionable verdict.
What It Does
- One pluck, one verdict. Pluck a string and the app listens for 1-3 seconds (your choice), discards the noisy attack, and averages the stable pitch. You get a clear direction and magnitude — exactly how much to tighten or loosen.
- Auto re-measure and auto-advance. Turn the peg and pluck again; the app re-measures without you tapping anything. When a string is in tune, it moves to the next one automatically, keeping your flow unbroken from string 6 to string 1.
- Headstock guide with no jargon. A diagram shows all six strings with their target notes (E, A, D, G, B, E) and plain-language hints like “Thickest string (top when you hold the guitar)”. Tuned strings turn green; off strings turn red. Your progress is visible at a glance.
- Live pitch graph and precision feedback. While measuring, the pitch is drawn in real time. After the verdict, you see your average line against the target line, plus a cent-offset bar showing exactly how far off you were.
- Tuning history and weekly summary. Finish all six strings and your session is saved — date, final offset per string, time taken, and a rolling weekly summary so you can watch your practice habit solidify.
Privacy and Control
No sign-up. No login. No recording. The microphone audio is analyzed on your device in real time and never leaves your phone. Your tuning history stays local too. You also get to choose the listening time (1s, 2s, or 3s depending on how stable your pluck is), switch between light and dark themes, and use the app in English or Korean.
